Slowly but surely, I'm progressing. Today I purchased the Wacom XD68USBPLAT Platinum Intuos2 USB 6X8 Tablet, and should receive it sometime early next week.

i got a wacom Grafire 4x5 a couple of weeks ago. its still not "intuitive" but its better than the mouse alone. i haven't begun to tap into its potential. (i got it on ebay for about $70 including shipping)

Have fun with that new Wacom. The Intuous is surely the best. I've tried others and I'm sure you will be satisfied. 6x8 was a good choice to start with.

Also, I've found that the default setting for the table is not proportional. The area of the tablet is actually 'squished' relative to the screen. So, when you draw a circle as you normally do, it comes out slightly oval shaped on the screen. Very annoying. You may need to set it in the options to get a more accurate 'feel' (although part of the tablet may be 'trimmed' off).

Good to know, thank you. I received the tablet on Thursday and so far am very pleased. Right now it's preferable to the mouse but maybe I just haven't used it enough.

The graphics programs I will be working with will be Macromedia Fireworks MX & Freehand 10 (I won't be upgrading to the 2004 versions until this summer). This weekend I begin working through the Freehand training manual, and will then follow through with the same for Fireworks... once I've spent some time reviewing Tipitat's tutorials I'll be making more posts here (I hope!).

    Greetings Everyone.

The Wacom tablet really plunged me right into the deep end... since my last post I have become a full time student of the Art Institute Online.

I'm on my first semester, have completed an Introduction to Color Theory class, a computer class which I should have tested out of, and yesterday began Drawing 101....

We are working with two books:
The New Drawing on the Right Side of the Brain by Betty Edwards, and
How To Draw What You See by Rudy De Reyna.

One day in the future, I'll actually begin submitting work here for constructive criticism!
