Re: New work; C&C Please?
Wed, February 4, 2004 - 9:29 AMvery nice use of color. overall i think its fine, but here are some questions/critique
1. i cant quite tell if i'm seeing the right shoulder or if that's the right wing. it looks feathered, but if its the wing, i think it needs to be a bit back and a bit higher, with the shoulder showing to the right of it.
2. the hair shine looks too much like the highlight on the wings (wing shine?). since they are different textures, you might consider using a slightly different technique to differentiate them more.
both of these comments are pretty minor points. i cant draw wings at all, so you're way ahead of me. i hope these comments are helpful. -

Re: New work; C&C Please?
Wed, February 4, 2004 - 10:47 AMYeah, I agree about the hair and wing/shoulder.
Really a beautiful peice though. Great shading on the face, really makes you look even more at those eyes! :D

Re: New work; C&C Please?
Thu, February 5, 2004 - 4:46 AMWow! Thank you guys so very much for the crits!
As for the wing/hair, I was going for a very similar colour between the two. The highlights are meant to be sparkly/shimmery, though I admitt they do look a bit too similar, as dark as the piece is.
For the wing/shoulder difficulty, I don't really think I understand what is meant here? There isn't a gap on her back between the base of her wings, because there is fluff there--like down, I would suppose? anyway, her left wing is held back and a little up, and the right is somewhat forward, more toward the viewer. Her wings are small in size--think Haibane Renmei, if you've seen any of the art from it.
I'm honestly very proud of it, for the fact that it was originally simply a sketch, never meant to be CGed. That I worked at it at all to this extent is still amazing to me.
But, thank you so much again, both for the kind words and the very helpful critiques! I will strive to incorporate what you have seen into the next piece I do, in hopes that I will get better. ^_^ Thank you, very, very much.

Re: New work; C&C Please?
Wed, February 4, 2004 - 9:00 PMas always, so beautiful - i like the eyes.
Maybe a different hair color if it blends too much into the wing... or shorter hair? -

Re: New work; C&C Please?
Thu, February 5, 2004 - 5:57 AMWell, the wing thing is that the right wing is in the same position (and relative shape) as a shoulder would be. So it looks a bit like a shoulder with feathers, you know? You can't see a shoulder behind it. If the wing were tilted a bit more to the back, so that it pointed more toward the viewer, it would be even better.
But really, it's great. Really a beautiful peice (way better than I can do! :))!

Re: New work; C&C Please?
Thu, February 5, 2004 - 10:26 AMOhh..! I think I see it now! ^///^ I hadn't realized that it looked so much like that at all, but now that I think of it, I was going for a similar pose--almost coy, in the way that some models look, when they pull up a sholder to hide a little of their chin and neck? I pulled her wing around like that for a similar effect, but I suppose because in my mind I was thinking that her shoulder was tucked just beneath it, that it made sense to everyone else, too!
Thank you for explaining that for me! ^_^ -

Re: New work; C&C Please?
Thu, February 5, 2004 - 12:05 PMNo prob! Now that I've looked at it again, I see that she's got her neck in a position where you can imagine the shoulder beaneath/behind the wing.
Very nice. :D
